Not figure it out. Not try harder. Come. All who are weary. The invitation is open.
Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. These are perhaps the most generous words ever spoken about rest. And they come with only one qualification: weariness.
Not worthiness. Not an accomplishment. Not a minimum number of hours worked or goals achieved. Weariness. If you are tired, you qualify. That is the entire application process. No interview. No waiting list. No prerequisites.
This invitation, whether you receive it as scripture or simply as ancient wisdom, is radically countercultural. It does not say figure it out. It does not say try harder. It does not say rest when you have earned it. It says come. Present tense. Right now. As you are. With your mess and your exhaustion and your incomplete to-do list.
The invitation is still open. It has not expired. It has not been withdrawn due to overuse. It is not limited to people who have their lives together. In fact, it is specifically addressed to people who do not. To the weary. To the burdened. To the ones who have been carrying more than they should for longer than they can.
If this speaks to where you are today, receive it. Not as a motivational quote to scroll past. As an actual invitation to put something down that you have been carrying too long. Come. Rest is waiting.
