Soul Rest
Soul rest is different from every other kind of rest. It is not the kind of tired that sleep fixes. It is the kind that comes from showing up as someone you are not, day after day, week after week, until the mask becomes so heavy that even lying down does not relieve the weight.
Soul rest is what happens when you drop the performance. When you stop being the person everyone expects and start being the person you actually are. When the gap between your public self and your private self narrows enough that you can breathe.
Most of us carry a version of ourselves that is for public consumption and another version that only comes out when nobody is watching. The larger the gap between these two versions, the deeper the soul fatigue. Because maintaining a performance is the most exhausting work there is.
Soul rest requires honesty. With yourself first. Am I living authentically? Am I carrying masks I do not need to carry? Am I performing for an audience that is not even watching as closely as I think? These are soul-rest questions. And the answers, if you are brave enough to hear them, are the beginning of relief.
Find soul rest this week. Not in a vacation or a nap, though those help the body. Find it in a moment of radical honesty. In a conversation where you show up without armor. In a prayer where you stop performing for God and just sit with Him as you are. That is where soul rest lives.
