Rest Gave Me My Life Back

This is personal. There was a version of me that was running so fast through life that I could not feel anything. Not the good things. Not the beautiful things. Not even the things I had spent years working toward. The promotion arrived and I felt nothing. The vacation happened and I was too tired to enjoy it. The people I loved were right in front of me and I could not access the gratitude I knew I should feel.

That is what chronic exhaustion does. It does not just steal your energy. It steals your capacity to feel. The emotional range narrows until you are operating in a gray zone between numb and irritable, and you start to believe that is just who you are now.

Rest gave me my life back. Not immediately. Not dramatically. But slowly, like defrosting after a long winter, I started feeling things again. The sunset was beautiful again. The conversation was interesting again. The hug from my child registered as warmth instead of interruption.

I am not exaggerating when I say rest is not just about energy. It is about access. Access to joy, gratitude, love, wonder, and all the emotions that make being alive worth the effort. When you are rested, you can feel your life. When you are exhausted, you just endure it.

Has rest given you something back? Not just energy, though that matters too. Something deeper? An emotion you forgot you had? A capacity you thought was gone? Share your story. It might be exactly what someone else needs to hear today.
