Present, Not Productive

The last Friday of May. Not the last chance to be productive before the weekend. The last chance to be present. Because presence is what you will remember. Not the tasks you completed. Not the emails you sent. The moments you actually felt.

Not by being productive. By being present. Rest is presence. And presence is the most valuable thing you can offer the people in your life and yourself. When you are present, conversations go deeper. Meals taste better. Sunsets register. The ordinary becomes extraordinary because you are actually there for it.

Presence requires margin. And margin requires rest. You cannot be present in a moment when your mind is already three moments ahead. You cannot notice beauty when you are calculating efficiency. You cannot feel your life when you are too busy managing it.

This weekend, aim for presence, not productivity. Not how much you can get done but how much you can feel. How deeply you can listen. How slowly you can move. How fully you can show up to the ordinary moments that make up the majority of your life.

Be present. Not productive. Present. The difference is the difference between surviving your life and actually living it. And living it is the whole point.
