You have probably already thought about your fall wardrobe. Maybe you have started thinking about your fall goals. Your fall schedule is likely taking shape in your mind or on your calendar. But have you planned your fall rest?
A rest plan is not a wellness luxury. It is strategic protection against the predictable demands of the busiest season of the year. September through December is a sprint, and sprints without recovery plans lead to collapse.
Here is the framework. First, block your weekly rest day now. Not when the schedule fills up. Now. Make it non-negotiable the way a doctor’s appointment is non-negotiable. Second, set your phone curfew. The time each evening when the phone goes in a drawer or on a charger in another room. Third, identify your three rest practices, the specific things that restore you, and schedule them weekly.
Fourth, build in monthly check-ins with yourself. One evening per month where you audit your rest the way you audit your finances. Am I on track? Am I slipping? What needs to change? Fifth, tell someone about your plan. Accountability transforms intention into action.
A rest plan built in August protects you in October when you are too depleted to remember that rest was supposed to be part of the plan. Build it this week while you still have the clarity to build it well.
